DOJ OIG: Removals Involving Illegal Alien Parents of United States Citizen Children

OIG-09-15 – Removals Involving Illegal Alien Parents of United States Citizen Children (PDF, 23 pages): “This report addresses the number of instances over the past 10 years in which the illegal alien parent of a United States citizen child was removed from the country. It is based on interviews with employees and officials of relevant agencies and institutions and a review of applicable documents…The United States conducted 2,199,138 alien removals between FYs 1998 and 2007. Existing data indicate that these removals involved 108,434 alien parents of U.S. citizen children. Alien parents were removed because of immigration violations, such as being present without authorization or committing criminal violations that affect immigration status. Data limitations decrease the reliability of these results, including the absence of a requirement for staff to collect data that establish which aliens are the parents of U.S. citizen children.”
