Google Maps enabling feature to identify certain locations are wheelchair accessible

BusinessInsider – “If you need a wheelchair to get around, the last thing you need to worry about is whether the restaurant, store, movie theater or other destination you’re heading to is accessible by wheelchair. But as is par for the course, Google Maps is here to bail us out. Actually, the idea came from the 20% of work time that Google employees are allowed to spend on side projects. The Googler behind the new feature is Google Drive Manager Rio Akasa. With the new feature, you will be able to find the information about wheelchair accessibility in the same amenities section that shows the hours of operations for a certain location. While the feature is now live on Google Maps, the information might not cover all locations yet since Google relies on ‘Local Guides’ who exchange information for space on Google Drive. Besides those in wheelchairs, the information will help parents with strollers, and those who rely on a cane to walk.”
