Stockholder Lawsuits Down 40 Percent in Last Four Years

Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse – “The latest available data from the federal courts show that in the last 12 months ending in June 2016 the federal government reported 259 new stockholder civil lawsuits filed. This represents a drop of more than one third (35.4%) from the same period five years ago, and a decrease of 40.7 percent from a peak reached of 437 suits in the 12 month period ending May 2012. In per-capita terms, the District of Delaware led the nation with 13.7 stockholder suits per million population, 17 times the national average of 0.8 per million. In absolute terms, the Southern District of New York (Manhattan) led all districts with 25 stockholder lawsuits filed in the last 12 months.
