Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers and Urban Wage Earners and Clerical Workers, South Region

News release: “The Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers (CPI-U) for the South1 declined 1.2 percent in October to 210.108 (1982-84=100), the Bureau of Labor Statistics of the U.S. Department of Labor reported today. Sheila Watkins, the Bureau’s regional commissioner, noted that this was the largest one-month decline since monthly reporting began in January 1987. Lower prices for transportation and housing were partially offset by higher costs for most of the remaining categories, while education and communication prices were unchanged over the month. Over the same period, the core inflation rate, as measured by the all items less food and energy index, inched up 0.1 percent.”
