Kaiser Report – Who are the Uninsured?

The Uninsured: “Who are the Uninsured? – The number of nonelderly uninsured Americans reached 47.9 million people in 2011. The gaps in the U.S. health insurance system affect people of all ages, races and ethnicities, and income levels; however, those with the lowest income face the greatest risk of being uninsured. Four in ten of the uninsured are individuals who are poor (incomes less than the federal poverty level (FPL) of $22,350 for a family of four in 2011). In total, nine in ten of the uninsured are in low‐ or moderate‐income families, meaning they have family incomes below 400% FPL.”
