Nationwide, 282 people were killed and 655 more injured so far this year, in 176 incidents of gun violence that each injured at least four individuals, according to data collected from the Reddit thread, GunsAreCool. There were a total of six mass shootings across the United States on June 12, the day of the Orlando shooting….Two decades ago, Congress threatened to strip funding from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention if the agency studied gun violence” so there is no official federal government source that accurately and timely maintains an actionable collection of data specific to the use of guns in acts of violence and criminal activity in the United States. “For [more than] 20 years, Congress has pushed the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to steer clear of firearms violence research.”
