“This page displays the NYPD crime statistics as recorded in the CompStat book. CompStat periods run Monday through Sunday. All figures reflect statistics from the end of the most recent CompStat period. Geographic coordinates are mapped to the nearest intersection. This data is subject to change as complaints are investigated. Crime data is provided in map format for the Seven Major NYS Penal Law Felonies: Murder and Non-Negligent Manslaughter, Rape, Robbery, Felonious Assault, Burglary, Grand Larceny and Grand Larceny Motor Vehicle. Attempted crimes are recorded as that crime, with the exception of Attempted Murder, which is recorded as a Felonious Assault. The New York State Penal Law crimes displayed include all the seven major felony crimes reported to the New York City Police Department, including crimes recorded by the Port Authority and other police agencies operating within New York City. Federal crimes are not included. Some crime reports (approx. 3%) will not contain enough information to be geo-coded, and therefore cannot be mapped; but they are nonetheless included in precinct counts. Crime within the Transit System is recorded at the station the train is moving toward if it occurs on a train in motion, otherwise at the station of occurrence. This will generally translate to intersections on the map. Crimes occurring in parks, beaches or open areas often cannot be mapped; some of these crimes may be mapped if there is enough information on the report to determine a close cross street and will appear on streets or intersections bordering the area. Some larger parks are bisected by streets and crimes recorded as occurring on those streets will be mapped. Crimes occurring on Rikers Island are recorded in the 41st precinct since arrests are adjudicated in the Bronx Courts. Police response is however the responsibility of the 114th Precinct because that command has physical access to the Island. Yellow font indicates crime increases in the period for the current year versus the previous year.”
