Report Highlights Improvements in Gov’t IT Security

The Federal Government Is Results Oriented; A Report to Federal Employees,” the Office of Management and Budget, August 9, 2004:

  • “The Federal Government is managing its IT more professionally as a resource for improving results. Seventy percent of the Federal Government’s IT systems are secure, versus 26 percent three years ago; so there is greater integrity in the data housed in these systems. Seventy-two percent of agencies have mechanisms in place to validate performance relative to cost, schedule and performance goals for their IT investments; about half of those agencies meet at least 90 percent of their cost and schedule goals. The Federal Government has also made great strides in expanding the availability and use of electronic services for citizens.
