English Version of German Civil Code Available Free Online

As posted by Marci Hoffman today, “The German Federal Ministry of Justice has commissioned a translation of the Bürgerliches Gesetzbuch (or BGB), the civil code of Germany. The translation can be downloaded free of charge here.”

Note: as brought to my attention by a reader (thanks Dan), as of mid-October 2006, the site now has the following message posted: “In view of flaws in the translation supplied by a team of external translators the Federal Ministry of Justice is unfortunately compelled to refrain from making this translation available. We apologize for the inconvienence.”
