That’s partly out of an underlying belief that the benefit of a massive database of book content helps them fulfill their mission, and partly, no doubt, because of risk. Should this deal fail, libraries could face legal exposure for their own digital library initiatives, and possibly for their contributory role in Google’s book-scanning efforts.”
