LGBTQ+ Legislation Tracking Project

This data originates from the LegiAlerts teamLiz Saila, Erin Reed, Allison Chapman, and Alejandra Caraballo — whose LGBTQ+ Legislative Tracking project has compiled anti-LGBTQ+ legislation in every state and Congress stretching back more than 20 years: from the marriage-ban era of the mid-2000s, through the bathroom-bill wave, to today’s record sessions targeting transgender people. Every number below traces back to an individual bill you can look up. In the 2026 session, lawmakers introduced 779 anti-LGBTQ+ bills — 55% of them targeting transgender people.
