Ocean Census project discovers 1,121 new species of ocean life around the world in one year

This marks a 54 per cent increase in the number of species discovered annually, but experts warn undiscovered species might go extinct before they are identified and catalogued…Thousands of previously unknown species have been discovered lurking and thriving in our oceans, as part of a scientific effort to catalogue and discover 100,000 new species.
