Strengthening Science in Government: Advancing Science in the Public’s Interest

Strengthening Science in Government: Advancing Science in the Public’s Interest. The Scientists in Government Project • March 2010.

  • “The federal government must ensure that its scientists are able to function effectively, both so that agencies can produce top-quality science to answer important questions and so that they can attract and retain scientific talent. Agencies must also demonstrate to the public that their scientists are working in the public’s interests and that agency management is facilitating (rather than suppressing or interfering with) the production and dissemination of knowledge. The public’s confidence in government science-and in the government as a whole—is at stake. The Scientists in Government project was launched as part of a larger effort to ensure that government uses the best science to protect and promote the health and well-being of Americans.”
